Civil War soldier presentation
APRIL 6 — Adults, teens and children 10 and older are invited to a presentation about the life of an American Civil War soldier taking place at the Delano Public Library, 160 Railroad Ave. E. from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 6. Arn Kind will describe what it was like to be a Civil War soldier. As well as being a schoolteacher, Kind is a member of the First Minnesota Volunteer Infantry Regiment, a reenactment group based out of Fort Snelling. This group is known for its authenticity and has appeared in many documentaries and films, including “Dances With Wolves,” and “The Blue And The Gray.” This presentation is funded in part with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
APRIL 6 — The Wright County American Dairy Association will host its annual Dairy Princess & Ambassador Coronation & Luncheon Saturday, April 6 St. Johns Lutheran Church, Buffalo.
The event begins with a social at 11 a.m. and the program and lunch commencing at 11:30 a.m. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $10. The Princess and Ambassador program is sponsored by the dairy promotion checkoff, which helps build demand for dairy products.
Crow River Food Co-op Breakfast Event
APRIL 6 — The Crow river Food Co-op will host a breakfast on Saturday, April 6, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Rockford High School lunch room commons. In addition to a free breakfast, those attending will be able to sample local foods. Speakers will provide information about the progress of the Crow River Food Cooperative, a group of citizens who have banded together to form a member-owned full service grocery store in Rockford.
Mentor training seminar
APRIL 6 — Registration is open for “Be With,” a Mentor Training Seminar hosted by Freshwater Community Church, 4319 Steiner St., St. Bonifacius Saturday, April 6, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Attendees will learn practical skills and proven strategies on how to live a lifestyle of mentoring and reach their full leadership potential. This seminar will be taught by LEAD222, a non-profit international coaching and mentoring ministry based on 2 Timothy 2:2. This seminar is open to anyone interested in learning or refining their mentoring skills. Cost is $30 for the general public and $20 for students and Freshwater Church members and includes a snack and beverage. Lunch will be on your own at a local restaurant. Delano Community Expo
APRIL 6 — The 24th annual Delano Community Expo is coming to the Tiger Activity Center in Delano High School, 700 Elm Ave. E. from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 6. Area businesses and organizations will offer information, prize drawings, handouts and treats.
Rieder Barn tour
APRIL 6 — Dave Rieder will present the family history of the Rieder barn, one of Delano’s oldest historical buildings Saturday, April 6, from 9 to 11 a.m. At the same time he will take visitors on a tour of the barn. The Delano Franklin Township Area Historical Society invites the public to attend the meeting and the tour.
Thousand Hearts Task Force meetings
APRIL 8 — Most people have a heart to serve and make a difference but many times lack resources, vision and coordination to achieve this goal. Thousand Hearts Crow River Serve Day invites you and your organization to join together to make a positive difference in the area Sunday, May 5. Task Force meetings for this event are Mondays in April at 7 p.m. at Riverwood Covenant Church (near State Hwy 55 and Vernon St.)
Snuggle Up and Read
APRIL 8 — The Delano Public Library, 160 Railroad Ave. E., is offering a spring Snuggle Up and Read series for toddlers 18 months to three years of age. The story time will take place Mondays, April 8, 15 and 22 from 10:30 to 10:50 a.m. This interactive storytime includes singing, clapping and fun stories that a child and parent/caregiver can enjoy together. General Federated Women’s Club
APRIL 8 — The General Federated Women’s Club of Delano (GFWC) will meet at 6:45 p.m. Monday, April 8 at the Delano Public Library, 160 Railroad Ave. E. Jack Lynch will speak about the “Beyond the Yellow Ribbon” program that provides support to military families. Guests are welcome to attend the program. GFWC meets on the second Monday of each month from September through May. The purpose of the Club is to provide opportunities for club members to make contributions to their community.
Grief Support Group
APRIL 8 —The Grief Support Group: Rebuilding Hope, sponsored by Ridgeview Medical Center will meet Monday, April 8, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Ridgeview Medical Center. This support group is for those experiencing grief or anticipating a loss of someone they care about. APRIL 9 — The Wright County Wellness on Wheels (WOW) van will stop at Coborn’s supermarket on Highway 12 in Delano from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 9. WOW services include adult and child immunizations; health screening; blood pressure, diabetes, and cholesterol checks by appointment; pregnancy, health and wellness checks and child car seat checks by appointment. Used book sale
APRIL 11 & 12 — The Friends of the Delano Public Library will hold its annual used book sale from Thursday, April 11, from 1 to 8 p.m. and Friday, April 12, from 1 to 6 p.m. at the library, 160 Railroad Ave. E. Nonfiction, fiction, children’s and teen books as well as audio books, videos, DVD’s, will be sold. Electronic scanners are not allowed at the sale. Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has approved matching funds for this sale which is sponsored by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Wright County MN Chapter #30106. Proceeds will benefit the Delano Public Library. Do not drop off materials for donation at the library until next September when the Friends will begin organizing their next sale.
Delano Central Park fund raiser
APRIL 12 — The Delano Lions will hold a fundraiser for Delano Central Park improvements at the Delano American Legion, Bridge Avenue at Highway 12, from 6 p.m. to midnight Friday, April 12. The Lions will offer BBQ Ribs and Brisket cooked by Shiggin’ and Grinnin’ and rockabilly music by Tunakanu. Tickets costing $25 must be purchased in advance at Delano City Hall, Coborn’s, State Bank of Delano, US Aquatics, Flippin’ Bills or Bauer Design Build.
Citizen of Year Banquet
APRIL 13 — The General Federated Women’s Club of Delano will honor Dale Vanderlinden, 2013 Delano Citizen of the Year, at a banquet planned for Saturday, April 13, at the Delano American Legion, located at Highway 12 and Bridge Ave. He will be honored for his many years of volunteer community service. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. Hors d’oeuvres at 6 p.m. will be followed by a 7 p.m. dinner and the program. 4-H Open House
APRIL 13 — The Knapp Busy Bees 4-H Club will host an “Explore 4-H Open House” for all families interested in learning more about Wright County 4-H. The event will be Saturday, April 13, at the Cokato City Hall Community Room from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The free event will include opportunities to get general information and hands-on 4-H project activities where youth and families can try out robotics, photography, gardening, foods, and sewing. No commitment is required and the event is free. 4-H is a low-cost youth development program for all youth in grades kindergarten to 13. 4-H promotes hands-on learning in a positive, supporting environment. Tiger Fun Fair
APRIL 13 — The Delano Elementary School Tiger Fun Fair will feature over 45 games and activities. The event will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 13 at the Delano High School Tiger Activity Center. Activities will include a pony hop with race track inflatable, face painting, tattoos, balloon animals, clowns, dance clinics, silent auction, raffle, sporting and classic games and games for preschoolers. For food, visitors can choose from sloppy joes, corn dogs, cotton candy, mini doughnuts, sno cones, slushies, nachos and popcorn.
Advance Care Planning…It’s About the Conversation
APRIL 13 — It is important for people to have accurate information in order to make informed decisions about treatments they would or would not want for end-of-life care. Then it is important to talk about one’s wishes with family members who may need to make health care decisions, and to record your wishes in a document. Please join in for an information session that will explain why advance care planning is important and the steps involved. APRIL 18 — Cuddle up and read with Annie, the golden retriever, between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 18, at the Delano Public Library, 160 Railroad Ave. E. Annie is a certified Reading Education Assistance Dog. Sign ups are on the same day for 15 minutes of one on one reading time. The library will provide books of all reading levels.
