The Maple Grove City Council approved an expansion to the Parnassus Preparatory School at its Monday, April 1 meeting.
The council also received an update on the water meter replacement program and the upcoming community survey.
Here are some of the meeting’s highlights.
The council approved the amendment to the planned unit development allowing the expansion of the classroom area for Parnassus Preparatory School by approximately 25,000-square-feet. This would bring the building’s total area to 60,000-square-feet.
The school is located in the Zachary Square Shopping Center, just north of 95th Avenue N. and west of Zachary Lane N.
Parnassus is in its second year of operation, with 610 students in grades kindergarten through seventh grade as of Jan. 1. The school opened with more than 350 students in August 2011.
The expansion would include and make room for eighth grade students for the 2013-14 school year. The expansion project would allow for more classrooms, staff office space, some storage and possibly a large common area for meetings and lunches.
WATER METER REPLACEMENTS
Public Works Director/City Engineer Ken Ashfeld informed the council that the water meter replacement program within the city is underway.
“We are approaching almost 50 percent complete with that project now,” he said.
He added the city is a little bit ahead of schedule with the replacements, with 7,100 meters replaced to date. A total of 16,000 meters will be replaced when the project is completed.
City Administrator Al Madsen said the 2013 Community Survey will be mailed out sometime next week to about 1,200 homes. The Citizens Advisory Committee has been working on the survey.
Madsen said the homes mailed the survey were selected randomly.
“They hope to get a return of 400,” he added. “If they do not reach that number, then they will send out reminders to folks to complete the form and send it back in.”
