Spring into fun at the Maple Grove Library in April

The Maple Grove Library, 8001 Main Street N., will offer several events and classes during the month of April. Classes include:

“Friends Meeting,” Wednesday, April 3, at 7 p.m. — Join fellow library enthusiasts to hear what’s happening at Hennepin County Library. Help support the library by planning and volunteering at book sales, programs and special events. The Friends look forward to meeting participants. General membership meeting.

“Teen Anime Club,” Saturday, April 6, from 2:30 to 4 p.m. — For teens. Watch anime, discuss manga and share artwork. Something different every time. Sponsored by Friends of the Maple Grove Library.

“When Your Child is on the Autism Spectrum: Library and Community Resources,” Thursday, April 11, at 7 p.m. — In recognition of Autism Awareness Month, librarian and Aspie (one who has Asperger’s Syndrome) mother, Stella Riker, will share library resources and local organizations helpful for parents with children of special needs.

“Art for Life: Silk Scarf, Banner or Hoop Painting,” Friday, April 12, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. — Register. For adults 55+. Learn a variety of methods for painting on silk. Experiment with a new tie-dye technique and batik-painting. Materials provided. Find related books and more at the Library. This project is funded with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. Presented in collaboration with ArtsySmartsy.

“eBook Basics,” Wednesday, April 17, from 10 a.m. to noon —Register. Learn how to search for, select, download and use eBooks from the HCL website on a personal eReader device or computer.

“Baby Storytime,” Fridays, April 26 to May 31, from 10:15 to 10:45 a.m. or from 11:15 to 11:45 a.m. — Registration required. For children from birth to 24 months. Delight and stimulate a baby’s senses with books and music. Build brain power.

“Author Talk: Joyce Sutphen,” Monday, April 29, at 6:30 p.m. — Join Sutphen, poet laureate of Minnesota, for an evening of live poetry. She also will discuss how poetry enriches lives, and share stories about her role as poet laureate. Sponsored by Friends of the Maple Grove Library.
