Seth Thoelke named 2013 Star of the North

Seth Thoelke, an eighth grade student at Delano Middle School, has been named the Minnesota Educators Gifted and Talented (MEGT) Star of the North 2013 award winner. MEGT sponsors this award, which is designated to recognize excellence in students currently in Grades 5 through 8. Seth has excelled in many academic areas.

Last February, Seth participated in the Midwest Talent Search and scored in the top 3% for his age group, the top 13% in the United States, and the top 18% of all students in Minnesota. For the past two years, Seth has placed in the Regional Spelling Bee. He placed first in the regional contest as a sixth grader and seventh in the state Spelling Bee. As a seventh grader, Seth placed fourth in the regional tournament. Seth is also a talented mathematician and was selected to participate on the Math Master team in both fifth and sixth grade. He received medals and ribbons for his individual effort and was a member of a first place team. He is currently participating on the Delano Middle and High School Math Teams simultaneously.

Seth spreads his talents further to include Science Olympiad, music, theater and athletics. Along with these accomplishments, Seth finds time to be involved in many service projects like Feed My Starving Children.

Seth received his award, a trophy and $500, at the annual MEGT conference held at Cragun’s Resort in Brainerd.
