STMA Bantam AA hockey shoots for state
The MN Youth Hockey State Tourney starts Friday, March 15, at Braemar Arena in Edina and STMA Bantam AA is playing in it.
The Bantam AA team plays Prior Lake at 2 p.m. Friday in their first game. The team’s record is 34-13-4. Head coach is Paul Berning, and assistant coaches are Mark Greenwood, Dan Reckard and Kevin Jocelyn.
Bantam AA regions were played last weekend in St Cloud.. In their 1st game vs. Lakeville South the Knights lost 3-4 when Lakeville socred with :00.2 on the clock. Having their backs against the wall in the double elimination tourney they fought back. Next beating Buffalo 8-0 then Rochester 2-1, then squaring off once again with Lakeville South and winning 2-1. They then faced Minnetonka in the elimination game and the right to go to State.
The Knights got out to a quick 2-0 lead but found themselves trailing after 1 period 2-4.. In the 2nd period they scored the only goal and were trailing 3-4 after 2 periods.. They came out flying in the 3rd period and tired the Minnetonka team out and put 4 goals on the scoreboard to take the victory 7-4 and the right to go to State.
The Final 8 teams left in Stae at the Bantam AA level are : STMA, Prior Lake, Osseo/Maple Grove, Duluth East, Wayzata, Grand Rapids, Edina, and White Bear Lake
