Oxbow Creek students let their ‘imagination run wild’
Annual Arts & Academic Expo set for March 21
More than 600 Oxbow Creek Elementary School students have been preparing for the annual Arts & Academic Expo coming up Thursday, March 21. Roughly half the students in the school will create something for display or perform at the expo. This year’s theme is “Letting Your Imagination Run Wild!”
Students have the opportunity to participate in a number of categories including: creative writing, historical project, science project, construction, drawing, photography, games by kids, computer project, dance, handwriting, instrument and vocal music, memorization and dramatic reading.
The school does not host a science fair. Instead, said Lori Onstad, expo judging coordinator, the expo offers students the choice to explore virtually any area to further their knowledge.
“It’s a chance for them to do deeper study outside of school in an area that interests them,” she said.
While volunteers called judges will be brought in to review the projects, they are not judged as winners or losers. Instead, judges are asked to provide constructive feedback on the projects keeping in mind the expo is not a competition, rather a forum in which students are challenged to achieve personal excellence.
The event is free and open to the public Thursday, March 21 from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
