The Maple Grove CI adapted hockey team beat Owatonna Thursday, March 7, 12-6 to advance to this week’s state tournament.

The Crimson adjusted their lines for the game and it really paid off. Augie Wodrich and Kevin Hofer split time at center while Tasha Feigh and Megan Thompson flip-flopped with each other between forward and defense.

Hofer scored five goals and added four assists. Wodrich scored four goals and added five assists. Feigh scored twice and Lavelle Riser-Blackman scored the other goal. Thompson also had three assists.

“Owatonna had one of the best goalies I’ve seen in years,” Crimson coach Kelli Waalk-Gilbertson said.  “We out shot then 67-18 so our score could have been much higher if it wasn’t for Owatonna’s incredible net-minding.”

The Crimson are seeded fourth in the north and will play the No. 1 seed in the south New Prague at 8 p.m. Friday, March 15, in the state tournament at Bloomington Jefferson High School. The winner advances to the semifinal at noon Saturday, March 16. The state final is 4 p.m. March 16.
