District 279 Alpine Ski Team wraps up a successful season

The District Alpine Ski Team just completed an exciting season. The 17-member team consistently ranked at the top in conference races throughout the season, with the boys placing third in their conference overall.

The team also had six members qualify for All-Conference Honors. They are co-captains Matt Miner (senior) and Mackenzie Koch (junior) along with Jack Barr (junior), Emma Wangan (freshman) and Elizabeth Wangen (freshman) and Connor Koch (seventh grade). Mackenzie Koch also placed first individually for girls in their conference and qualified to race in the state meet.

In addition to their hard work on the slopes, the Maple Grove skiers were hard at work in the classroom, qualifying for the distinguished Silver Academic Award presented by the Minnesota State High School Alpine Coaches Association. The team is are already looking forward to next year, naming new co-captains — Nick Lindenfelser, Justin Kubberdahl, Elizabeth Wangen and Mackenzie Koch for the 2013-14 season.

The OMGPC ski team is a co-op sanctioned non-funded high school sport and is a part of the North Suburban Conference. The team is open to Osseo, Maple Grove and Park Center high school students as well as students from the junior high schools. OMGPC does not limit the number of racers or make any cuts; any and all students’ grade seven through 12 are encouraged to participate.
