Orioles send relays, individuals to state swim meet

Osseo qualified for the state swimming and diving meet in seven events — five individual and two relays-after a strong showing at the Section 5AA meet last weekend.

Osseo took first in the 200 medley relay and tied the section record with a time of 1:39.33. The foursome of Josh Nelson, Tim van Laarhoven, Jake Rear, Nolan Vander Ploeg and get to compete at the state meet.

Dylan Croonquist, Vander Ploeg, van Laarhoven, and Nelson teamed up to take a close second in the 400 free relay and qualified for state with a time of 3:17.33.

In individual events, Vander Ploeg qualified for state in the 50 freestyle and 500 freestyle, Nelson qualified for state in the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke (he also broke the section record in winning the 100 freestyle) and van Laarhoven took first in the 100 breaststroke and qualified for state.

As a team, Osseo placed third overall and Osseo coach Marshall Abrahamson was named Section 5AA Coach of the Year for the second year in a row.
