MapleBrook soccer players raise funds for summer dream trip to Italy

Twenty nine members of the MapleBrook U14 & U16 C1 boys’ soccer teams are in the midst of a massive fundraising project to help cover the cost of a planned 11-day trip to Italy in June. The teams will compete in the Italia Cup as well as play in friendlies and train with Italian professional clubs.

The biggest event of the year is a home-made (secret recipe) spaghetti dinner, silent auction and raffle from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Sunday, March 3, at Maple Grove Evangelical Free Church. The cost for dinner is $10/adult, $5/children between 3 -11 and free for children 2 and under ($2 more at the door). Raffle tickets for a 4-night trip for two to London, including airfare, hotel, breakfast and a professional soccer match or West End show, are $10/apiece. Tickets can be purchased through any of the boys on the teams or Michelle Cortez at mcortez24@gmail.com.

Currently there are 14 players planning to go on the trip from the U-14 age group and 15 players from the U-16 age group, plus an additional four parents (not including coaches) to supervise/chaperone each group. The boys have raked leaves, bagged groceries, sold food and other items door to door and held a Futsal Tournament thus far. Two payments per player have already been made to the tour organizer and the boys are looking for additional work opportunities to replenish their balances.

Players planning to go on the Italian trip and the schools they play for are:

Maple Grove High: Daniel Cortez, Ian DeBois, Alireza Kowsari, Ryan Peterson, Isaiah Stewart, Garson Thomas, Ben Zaver.
