Maple Grove Boys’ Basketball

Maple Grove ended a two-game losing streak with a 70-53 win over Wayzata Friday, Feb. 1.

Brycen Wojta had 15 points and 13 assists to spark the Crimson, who had lost to No. 1 Park Center and Champlin Park. Wojta now leads the state in assists. Jake Wieneke added 19 points, Erik Olson had 14.

The Crimson next host Centennial Friday, Feb. 8.

Maple Grove Girls’ Basketball

Maple Grove rallied in the second half to pick up a 60-50 win at Wayzata Friday, Feb. 1. Julie Hagert led the Crimson with 17 points, Angie Davison had 14 and Kaela Jones 13.

The 12-3 Crimson face a big game at league leader Centennial (12-2) Friday, Feb. 8.

Osseo Girls’ Basketball

Phillis Webb exploded for a season-high 29 points to lead Osseo to a 79-57 win over Andover on Feb. 1. Janay Morton and Ayo Porte each added 19 points as he Orioles broke open a close game at halftime with a big second half.

Osseo next hosts Champlin Park Friday, Feb. 8.

North Metro Girls’ Hockey

The North Metro girls’ hockey is seeded eighth in the Section 6 Tournament.

They will play No. 1 seed Minnetonka at noon Saturday, Feb. 9, at Parade Arena. The section is regarded by many to be the toughest in the state with six of the eight teams ranked in the top 20.

Taylor Anderson, Jessica Ward and Leah Younkers are the leading scorers for the Stars and goalie Lauren Torborg has a .891 save percentage.
