The Rogers Royals rallied from a 22-0 deficit to beat East Ridge, and cruised over Minneapolis Roosevelt 55-6, in a triangular Friday evening at East Ridge in Woodbury.
“It was fun to have a close dual like the one against East Ridge,” said coach Chris Donnay. ”We left way too many points out there but our guys picked each other up. Starting out down 22-0 but coming back to win shows a lot of heart out of our guys. (Ryan) Lien got a pin at 195 to seal the deal.
In earlier action, the Royals were the victors 43-27 over the Buffalo Bison at home Thursday evening.
In a duel of two formidable freshmen at 220 pounds, No. 8 ranked Adam Treptau of Buffalo got a takedown in the closing second to clinch a 5-2 win over Andrew Piehl.
Piehl, down 3-2 with 10 seconds left, made a desperation move to try to score, and Treptau countered for the takedown.
“They had an awesome match,” said Rogers coach Chris Donnay. “It will be fun to watch them compete for four years.”
Rogers (1-1 conference, 6-6 overall) had pins by Philip Anderson, Jordan Lemcke, and Jake Owens, a technical fall by Connor Larson, and decisions by Cruz Martinez (major), Tyler Eicher, Kyler Swanson, and Steffen Paige (major).
Anderson and Lemcke were both ahead by 14 when they got their pins. Eicher, down 5-0, rallied to win 8-5.
Rogers (8-6) and Blaine will wrestle at STMA on Thursday.
