This year’s squad consists of 32 girls, half from Osseo and half from Fridley. The captains are Amanda Gullord and Megan Noack of Osseo and Artavia Hernandez and Natalie Bailey of Fridley. Head coach Tammy Hoff is back for her sixth year with the team, assistant Matt Stone for his third and Carrie Sandell, who was the head coach for Fridley, is back again this year to assist.

“We won our first two meets and so far this season the girls continue to work hard to learn new skills and perfect their routines,” Sandell said.

An exciting new addition to the team is Katharina Huppertz, a foreign exchange student from Germany who is enrolled at Fridley High School this year.

“We have been lucky enough to have her on our team,” Sandell said. “It has been such a wonderful experience for the girls to learn about how gymnasts in another country practice and compete and she brings both hard work and a positive attitude to the gym each day. Both Katharina and Captain Amanda Gullord are our State hopefuls this season.”

The Orioles also have some new, young talented gymnasts. Ruby Boone, Kailyn Canady, Rachel Holly and Jhania Blanchard are seventh, eighth and ninth graders who have already helped out the varsity score.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with them for the next few years,” Sandell said.

The Orioles next visit Elk River Thursday, Jan. 17.
