ORDINANCE NO. 13-01
CITY OF MAPLE GROVE
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING MAPLE GROVE CITY CODE
REGARDING ACTING MAYOR
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MAPLE GROVE DOES ORDAIN:
SECTION 1. AMENDMENT. Maple Grove City Code Section 1-2 is hereby amended as set forth below by adding the underlined language and deleting the strikethrough language as follows:
Sec. 1-2. – Definitions and rules of construction.
In the construction of this Code and of all ordinances, the following definitions and rules of construction shall be observed, unless such construction would be inconsistent with the manifest intent of the city council:
Acting mayor. The term “acting mayor” shall mean the not absent council member with the most number of years serving on the city council.
SECTION 2. AMENDMENT. Maple Grove City Code Section 2-53 is hereby amended as set forth below by adding the underlined language and deleting the strikethrough language as follows:
Sec. 2-53. Presiding officer; execution of documents by acting mayor.
The mayor shall preside at all meetings of the council. In the absence of the mayor, the acting mayor shall preside. In the absence of both, the council members shall elect one of their number a temporary chair. The acting mayor and temporary chair, when occupying the place of the mayor, shall have the same privileges as other members. Any official documents authorized to be signed by the mayor may be signed by the acting mayor in the absence of the mayor.
SECTION 3. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and publications as required by law.
