Rockford Fire Department Toy Drive has banner year

The Rockford Fire Department held its annual toy drive this year, and with great results. According to the department’s community liaison, Bill Decker, this year’s donations were up significantly, a trend all involved would like to see continue.

Santa’s big day at the Rockford Fire Department was fun and fruitful for volunteers who collected toys and food for local families in need. Participating fire fighters and volunteers pictured are (in the front row, left to right) Brad Miller, Pat Christensen, Ben Sanderson, Ben Jarvi, Tyler Larson and Jacob Moser. In the back row, left to right, are Mike Peterson, Andy Gruber, Jess Vraspir, Moriah Schmit, Nathan Buoy, Adam Boeddeker, Kyle Loraff, Ron Harkins and Jeff Jensen.

The drive was headed up by Moriah Schmit and included a “Visit and Picture with Santa” event that drew an estimated 250 families to the fire station, most with toy and food donations. Mr. And Mrs. Claus had all kinds of activities on hand, including a “jumper” for the kids, that were a big hit. Also a big hit were the cookies, hot chocolate and Girl Scout Craft and Bake Sale.
On Dec. 16, the donations (including food from the RiverWorks Food Shelf) were distributed to 150 local families.
Aside from providing public safety ever hour of every day, the Rockford Fire Department continues to demonstrate community involvement and volunteering at its best.
