Open Skating

DAILY — Open skating is available at the Champlin Ice Forum, 12165 Ensign Ave., Champlin, Mondays through Fridays from 10 to 11:45 a.m. and Saturdays from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Also, Sundays through Nov. 18 from 2:45 to 4:15 p.m. No open skate Dec. 15, Jan. 5, 12, 19, 26, Feb. 2, 16 Fee is $4 students, $5 adults. Skate rental is $3 per pair. Skate sharpening is $3 per pair. Open skate passes for 8 open skate sessions costs $24 for youth and $32 for adults. Info: 763-421-3696.

Boy Scout Waffle Breakfast

JAN. 13 — Boy Scout Troop 542 and Prince of Peace Lutheran Church are hosting an All You Can Eat Waffle Breakfast for just $8 (under 6 free) on Sunday, Jan. 13, 9 a.m. to Noon, located at 7217 West Broadway Ave., Brooklyn Park.  Info: 763-542-9412.

Park Nicollet grand opening

JAN. 14 — Park Nicollet Clinic in Champlin will celebrate its grand opening with a ribbon cutting and tour at 10 a.m. Attendees will also have a chance to meet the staff. Located at 12142 Business Park Boulevard North, Champlin.

Champlin Champs

JAN. 14 —The Champlin Champs 4-H Club meets the 2nd Monday of the month at United Methodist Church 921 Downs Road at 6:45 p.m. Champlin Champs 4-H club is for kids ages K-12 and their parents.  New members are welcome.  Call 612-596-2115 for more information.

JAN. 14 — The Anoka-Hennepin School Board will hold a work session in the Erling Johnson Room A at the Staff Development Center, 2727 Ferry Street, Anoka.

Champlin City Council

JAN. 14 — The regularly scheduled Jan. 14 Champlin City Council was moved to Jan. 8. There is no council meeting this evening.


JAN. 15 — The Champlin Brooklyn Park Academy PTO will meet Jan. 15 at 6:30 p.m. at the school, located at 6100 109th Avenue North, Champlin.

‘Christmas in Norway’ movie night

JAN. 18 — The Sons of Norway Vestland Lodge of Minnetonka will present a movie night and show “Christmas in Norway,” 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, at the Minnetonka Community Center, 14600 Minnetonka Blvd., Minnetonka. This movie provides a charming look at Norwegian Christmas traditions. Concessions featuring popcorn, candy and pop will be on hand. Info: 952-994-3174.


JAN. 19 — The Anoka Hennepin School District will hold its annual Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Fair Saturday, Jan. 19 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Anoka High School The fair provides an opportunity for students to showcase their inquiry skills and creative genius. With more than 1,000 students involved, Anoka-Hennepin’s fair is the largest of its kind in the state.

MLK, Jr. Day Celebration

JAN. 21 — Celebrate MLK, Jr. Day at Champlin Ice Forum from 10 a.m. to noon with crafts, snacks and other activities. Event is free and for students with the day off of school and for all ages who wish to participate. Open skating will be running concurrently at the Ice Forum for a $3 charge.

City offices closed

JAN. 21 — City offices for Champlin and Dayton are both closed in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

Dayton City Council

JAN. 22 — Dayton City Council will meet Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Dayton City Hall. Located at 12260 South Diamond Lake Road, Dayton.

Champlin planning commission

JAN. 22 — The Champlin Planning Commission will meet Tuesday, Jan. 22 at 7 p.m. at Champlin City Hall, 11955 Champlin Drive, Champlin.

Band 6 concert

JAN. 24 — Jackson Middle School Band 6 will host two concerts. Band A will perform at 6:30 p.m. Band B will perform at 7:45 p.m. in Jaguar Gym 1 at Jackson Middle School, 6000 109th Ave. North, Champlin.

Steak fry fundraiser

JAN. 27 — Champlin’s 12U Traveling Baseball team will host a steak fry at the Osseo Legion, 260 4th Avenue SE, Osseo. The fundraiser is Sunday, Jan. 27 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Proceeds will be used towards the team’s trip to Cooperstown, NY this July, to compete for one week at a National level. Meal choices are steak, shrimp or walleye along with potato, toast, coleslaw, beverage and various desserts. Can upgrade to steak & shrimp at the door for an additional $2. Observatory viewing

JAN. 28 — Visit the Jackson Middle School Observatory from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. to look at stars, the moon, winter constellations and  more. Weather is always an issue so if it is cloudy or snowing, the public viewing could be cancelled. Please check the Observatory website before arriving. Dress for the weather as the temperatures in the observatory are similar to outdoors.

JAN. 28 — The Anoka-Hennepin School Board will hold a regular school board meeting at 6:30 p.m. to be held at the Sandburg Education Center, 1902 2nd Avenue North, Anoka.

8th grade high school registration

JAN. 29 — Champlin Park High School will host a registration information and parent night for incoming 8th graders beginning at 6:30 p.m. Located at Champlin Park High School, 6025 109th Ave. North, Champlin.

Orchestra 6 concert

JAN. 31 — Jackson Middle School will host two Orchestra 6 concerts. Group 1 performs at 6:30 p.m. Group 2 performs at 7:45 p.m. Jackson Middle School, 6000 109th  Ave. North, Champlin.

FEB. 5 —The 2012 Excellence in Business Awards event will take place Tuesday, Feb. 5, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Majestic Oaks.
