Champlin hosts Coaches vs. Cancer event
Champlin Park Boys Basketball is joining up with American Cancer Society to sponsor a fundraiser for the Society Friday, Jan. 11.
Throughout the week students will be asked to bring in change to collect in buckets in the classrooms.
The community can get in on the act during the evening’s basketball games, where a Wall of Hope will be displayed. For a $1 donation, individuals may add a sticker on the wall with the name of someone they’d like to honor or remember who is or has fought a battle with cancer.
During halftime of all five of the evening’s basketball games there will be games and prizes. Additionally, there will be a large silent auction. Bidding will be open from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Bidders who don’t want to wait it out until the end of the auction or don’t want to chance losing out on a specific item may also take advantage of the “buy it now” option. By purchasing an auction item at the displayed “buy it now” price, the bidder will automatically win the bid and take ownership of the item immediately.
A representative from the American Cancer Society will be on hand at a display booth with information. Registration will also be available for Relay for Life 2013. The new date for Relay for Life is Friday, July 26.
Freshman 9A and 9B play at 4 p.m. Sophomores and JV play at 5:30. Varsity tips off at 7 p.m. All teams will face Anoka as their opponent.
