Maple Grove had a 1-1 week in conference girls’ basketball action last week.
The Crimson defeated Armstrong 65-53 Dec. 18 behind a balanced attack. Senior guard Angie Davison scored a season-high 25 points, Madison Ordner added 12, Kaela Jones and Cora Bourbonais each had 11 and Kelly Olzenak had seven assists.
Maple Grove had a chance to pull into a tie for first place when it hosted league leading and undefeated Centennial Dec. 20. But they lost 69-51 as Centennial dominated the second half.
The Crimson were within striking distance, trailing 36-32 at halftime. They trailed 36-40 early in the second half when Olzenak scored on a lay-up but the Cougars forced numerous Crimson turnovers and their inside-outside offensive punch of center Jill Conrad and guard Daizjah Morris were too much for Maple Grove to handle. Centennial outscored MG 29-15 the rest of the half.
Centennial improved to 7-0, Osseo is in second at 6-1 and the Crimson are 4-2. Maple Grove next plays Edina Dec. 27.
