After a slow start, the Maple Grove boys’ hockey team has found its form.
The Crimson won their first two conference games, beating Anoka 3-2 and dominating Armstrong 5-1. They then lost 4-3 in overtime to highly-ranked Minnetonka last Thursday before beating Champlin Park 4-2 Saturday.
Maple Grove is now 6-3 overall and 3-0 in the conference, good for a first-place tie with Blaine and Elk River.
Against Champlin Park, Nate Erickson (assisted by Josh Augustine), Joe Norenberg (assisted by Josh Passolt and David Brumm) and Parker Dean (assisted by Chris Freemark and Nolan Kermode gave Maple Grove the win. Passolt scored in the first period from Brumm and Norenberg. Goalie John Danielson got the win.
Danielson made 32 saves in the loss to Minnetonka. Erickson, Dean and Chris Freemark were the goal scorers.
The Crimson visit Centennial Thursday, Dec. 20.
