Rockford Fire Toy Drive
NOW TO DEC. 17 — The Rockford Fire Department is helping out Santa again this year from now until Dec. 17. Please give a toy to benefit a local family. Toy collection boxes are at City Hall, the schools and area businesses. On Saturday, Dec. 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Santa will be available for pictures as the Fire Station (6700 Main St.)

Loretto Holiday Train visit
DEC. 13 — Loretto will welcome the Canadian Pacific Railway Holiday Train to the city train tracks on County Road 19, Thursday, Dec. 13. Community activities will begin at 3 p.m., and the train is expected to arrive at 4:15 p.m. Tracey Brown and the Claytones will perform from a lighted boxcar stage and donations to the Hanover Area Foodshelf will be collected. The event also will feature a Santa visit, kiddie train and wagon rides, caroling, bonfires and free hot chocolate and cookies.
DEC. 13 — Corcoran City Council will meet Thursday, Dec. 13, at 7 p.m. at city hall at 8200 County Road 116.
DEC. 14 — Hamel Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 5903 will offer a Christmas buffet from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at its clubhouse at 19020 Hamel Road in Plymouth. The VFW invites everyone to attend.
DEC. 16 — The choir of the Delano United Methodist Church is preparing to sing “Behold the Star! A Christmas Journey to the Light of Christ,” written by Lloyd Larson. The cantata will be presented at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, at DUMC, 3310 County Line Road S.E. in Delano. The cantata is free and open to all. Stay for cookies and coffee immediately following the performance.
Blue Christmas service
DEC. 16 — Lyndale Lutheran Church, 8012 County Road 6 in Independence, invites people from all denominations to its Blue Christmas Service set for 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16. Christmas can be a painful time of year for those experiencing holiday stress, grief, health problems and financial hardships. The Blue Christmas Service will offer meditative comfort as a community through music, prayer, and readings. Christian Nielsen, a music therapist, and Pastor Gale Reitan will lead the service.

Women of Today
dec. 17 — The Maple Grove Chapter of Women of Today hosts its monthly meeting on the third Monday of each month. The group invites everyone to join them at the Maple Grove Community Center at 7 p.m. Guests from Maple Grove and surrounding communities are welcome. The mission of Women of Today is to help women improve their own lives and the lives of the people in their communities. DEC. 17 — A card marathon for men and women will begin at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, at the Delano Middle School media center, located on Tiger Drive north of Elm Avenue. The General Federated Women’s Club of Delano will host the marathon on the third Monday of every month from October through April, unless otherwise announced. GFWC charges a minimum fee for the marathon, which includes both 500 and cribbage. Last year over 50 people came to play. Refreshments will be served. DEC. 27 — Wright County Public Health will offer a 60 Plus and Healthy Clinic from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, at Rockford Walnut Place Apartments, 8830 Walnut Place, Rockford. Public Health staff will trim toenails for seniors who have a health condition such as diabetes or are unable to trim toenails themselves. Staff will check blood pressures if needed and as time allows. Cost for foot care services is $15. Those who are unable to pay will not be turned away. from our clinic. Wow Van visit
DEC. 27 — The Wright County Wellness on Wheels (WOW) van will stop at BankWest in Rockford from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27. WOW services include adult and child immunizations; health screening; blood pressure, diabetes, and cholesterol checks by appointment; pregnancy, health and wellness checks and child car seat checks by appointment.
