MGFD announces grand prize winner of the 2012 Fire Safety Poster Contest

Each October the Maple Grove Fire Rescue Department invites all fourth graders to participate in a fire safety poster contest. The contest is sponsored by the participating fire departments of the North Suburban Regional Mutual Aid Association.

A trophy is awarded to the first, second and third place winners at each Maple Grove school. A grand prize winner is also chosen and awarded a trophy, a traveling trophy and a ride to school in a fire truck. The traveling trophy has the winner’s name, teacher’s name and school name on it, which is kept at the school for one year.

The 2012 Grand Prize Fire Prevention Poster Winner is Emily Kashirsky from Oakview Elementary School and her teacher is Mrs. Blix.

The grand prize poster is forwarded to the North Suburban Regional Mutual Aid Association competition and then to the MN State Fire Chiefs Association for a chance to win at the state level.

The Maple Grove Fire-Rescue Department congratulates each poster contest winner and thanks all fourth graders who participated. Winning Posters can be viewed at The city’s website at: maplegrovemn.gov.

The following are the winners from each school:

• Basswood Elementary — First place was Noelle Blashack, second place was Emma Highfield and third place was Claire Guisgand

• Ave Maria Academy — First place was Abigail Schmitz, second place was Grace Walz and third place was Dillon McNeal

• Elm Creek Elementary — First place was Stephanie Samuka, second place was Christina Corniea and third place was Kaden Sandberg

• Fernbrook Elementary — First place was Carson MacLeod and Jazmine Kohler, second place was Allie Palmer and third place was Kaitlin Reuer

• Heritage Christian Academy — First place was Morgan Bell, second place Teagan Carrington and third place was Sadie Lindsay

• Oak View Elementary — Grand Prize winner was Emily Kashirsky, first place was  Kyndall Thomas, second place was Lily Rose Canfield and third place was Kaylee Wingness

• Rice Lake Elementary — First place was Shaelyse Fehr, second place was Jacob Pearson and third place was Abby Hancock

• Rush Creek Elementary — First place was Taylor McGowan, second place was Morgan Thielen and third place was Claire Hering

• Weaver Lake Elementary — First place was Elena Peterson, second place was Kaya Yang and third place was Elizabeth Denchfield.
