Local dancer to perform in Nutcracker Fantasy

Dancer Kaitlyn Deyo of Champlin will be joining a cast of 72 student dancers, including the Minnesota Dance Theatre company dancers, along with other special guest artists in performing Loyce Houlton’s Nutcracker Fantasy at the Cowles Center from Dec. 14 to  24.

After almost 50 years and over 1.2 million audience members, Loyce Houlton’s Nutcracker Fantasy continues to enchant audiences of all ages. Loyce’s choreography, danced to the brilliant music of Tchaikovsky, remains a Minnesota holiday tradition. After Marie receives a Nutcracker from her beloved godfather Drosselmayer, her glorious adventure begins. Witness the drama of the nefarious Rat Queen, and enjoy the antics of the legendary Madame Bonbonnier as Drosselmayer takes Marie on a journey to the Land of Snow and Kingdom of the Sugar Plum Fairy.

Tickets are virtually sold out for all Nutcracker Fantasy performances but there’s still a way to get great seats. Each year, Minnesota Dance Theatre and the Cowles Center hold back a select number of seats so people interested in attending the Nutcracker Tea Party will also be able to purchase tickets to the performance for the same day.  Nutcracker Tea Party tickets may be purchased via The Cowles Center box office at (612) 206-3600.  When you advise the ticket agent you are also interested in attending the Nutcracker Fantasy performance, Cowles will then open up reserved seats to either of the weekend performances for selection and purchase.

The two exclusive Nutcracker Tea Parties are being hosted on Saturday, Dec.15 at 4 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 16 at 12 p.m. It includes a sit-down event with sweet treats and sandwiches, a tour of the backstage, a take-away photograph of guests 12 and under with select cast, and a distinctive memento. This is always a popular event and space is limited. Cost is $49 (children 12 and under) and $54 (adults). Cost includes The Cowles Center $4 handling fee. Performance is not included in Tea Party price.

This is my granddaughter. She has worked VERY hard to gain the skills and technique needed to participate in a historic performance such as the Nutcracker Fantasy. Thank you for posting this story about her. I could not be prouder!
