COLLEGE: Abby Bunnell

St. Cloud State University head softball coach Paula U’Ren announced recently that five high school standouts have committed to joining the Huskies program in the fall of 2013.


Abby Bunnell of Maple Grove has committed to St. Cloud State.

Bunnell is a centerfielder from Maple Grove Senior High School and will be a 2013 team captain.

She is a three-year varsity letterwinner. Last season she earned All-State Honorable Mention and All-Northwest Suburban Conference honors, along with Sports Jam Channel 12 All-Area honors. She hit .440 during the season and had a .452 slugging percentage. Her team won conference and section titles and placed second in the Minnesota State High School Tournament.

During the 2012 18U season, she was named to the Colorado Sparkler All-American and All-Academic Teams. Her team placed second at the Colorado Classic and third at the Colorado Sparkler. During her sophomore season on the high school team, Maple Grove won conference and section titles and placed fourth at the state tournament.

Bunnell is a National Honor Society member and has been an A honor roll student since 2007. She has earned academic awards in softball, cross country and Nordic skiing. She is a varsity letterwinner in all three sports. She has an interest in biology as a major.
