Hockey: Rogers girls lose to Anoka 5-2

The Rogers Royals scored the first goal but the Anoka Tornadoes stormed back for a 5-2 win on Thursday evening in Anoka.

Kaitlin Braiedy got the Royals on the scoreboard before Katie Burkey, Emily Brigham (two), Mareesa Roo and Hailey Miller, on the power play, connected for Anoka. Mackenzie Pena closed the scoring for Rogers (0-1-1).

Rogers goalie Michelle Klimstra faced 43 shots and stopped 38 Anoka’s Molly Scarborough was 13-for-15. Anoka was 1-for-6 on the power play and Rogers  0-for-1.

In earlier action, the Rogers Royals opened with a 1-1 tie against Mahtomedi at home as goalie Michelle Klimstra stopped 41 of 42 shots. Emily Antony, already the Royals all-time leader with 53 career goals through ninth grade, got No. 54 to open her sophomore season, tying the game at 7:21 of the third period.

Kelli McAlpine scored for Mahtomedi in the first period. Angela Borceen made 26 saves.

The Royals will play at Anoka on Thursday evening.

Rogers will host Totino-Grace on Tuesday
