Wizard of Oz opens Thursday
St. Michael-Albertville is about to get a visitor from Kansas.
Dorothy Gale and her “Wizard of Oz” pals Tinman, Lion and Scarecrow are coming to the Performing Arts Center Nov. 15 through 17.
A huge cast of more than 100 performers have been auditioning for the big musical production.
“I’d say this is going to be one of the biggest shows you could see at STMA,” assistant director Josh Mann said. “We have at least 150 kids participating, from the cast, to the pit orchestra, to backstage. It’s going to be over the top fun and exciting, and the dancing is going to be amazing.”
The cast includes Andrea Ohnemus as Dorothy, Christine Lennemon as the Wicked Witch, Max Rooney as the Lion, Preston Kuhn as Tinman, Tommy Lindquist as Scarecrow, and Annie Metzger as Glinda the Good Witch, along with Lola the dog as Toto.
Shows will be on Nov. 15, 16, and 17 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 18 at 2 p.m. at the STMA Performing Arts Center (5800 Jamison Ave. NE St. Michael MN 55376). Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for students (k-12) and Senior Citizens. Tickets are available online at www.stma.k12.mn.us.
Ashley Budde is the lead director. Mann is in his first year at STMA.
“I’m pumped with the effects and with the energy,” Mann said. “This show is all about having childish fun.”
