The St. Michael-Albertville Knights football team landed seven players on the 2012 Mississippi 8 All-Conference Team and two players came away with highest honors.
Senior Sean Scharlau was named M-8 Offensive Lineman of the Year and junior Dallas Freeman came away with the Special Teams Player of the Year.
Scharlau was a key component to an offensive line that allowed seven different players to score rushing touchdowns this season. Freeman led the conference in special teams with a combined 578 yards and three touchdowns while returning both kickoff and punt returns.
Both players were also named all-conference, along with senior teammates Bennie Wilson, Cole Krutzig, Erik Johnson, Mike Kessler and Allen Giller.
Wilson finished with 36 tackles, two sacks and had four rushing touchdowns. Johnson led the team in both tackles (62) and solo tackles (32). Giller finished the team leader in sacks with 3.5 and both Kessler and Scharlau were part of a Knights defensive line that allowed the third least points (13.4) and an offensive line that rushed for 1,722 yards on the ground this season.
