Creating critical thinkers with Capstone projects

Jackson Middle School 6th grade students are beginning their first capstone “H2OOOOh.”  During the next few weeks they will be engaged in a variety of inquiry-based activities that will help them begin to understand the value of water as a global commodity. The 7th grade students are working on the Living STEM Capstone where they are beginning their own experiment to test their question. JMS 8th grade students have completed their research on their STEAM topic and will be heard presentations from experts.  All of these capstones are intended to give students the opportunity to use high-order thinking as they pursue answers to their investigations. The JMS Capstones were developed with the intention to encourage increased independent thinking as students progress from 6th to 8th grade.
