Tiger runner makes state

Delano sophomore Adam Armbruster finished fourth at the Section 2AA cross country meet in Buffalo last week to qualify for the state meet, Nov. 2 at St. Olaf in Northfield.

“I’m pretty happy about the way that things went,” said coach Borak Wiesner. “The boys were hoping for seventh and took sixth place.

Wiesner said Armbruster ran really strong throughout the race and had a great finish to nip the guy from Marshall.

“Because of his racing style Adam gets himself out into the race fast, holds on and then has a great finish,” said Wiesner. “I wouldn’t be surprised to see Adam in the top 25 at state.”

Sophomore Daniel Clark (20) was second for Delano, followed by eighth-grader Tucker Sjomeling (22), junior Sam Thomas (23), senior Nate Bressler (93), sophomore Matt Ditty (94) and senior Jacob Hoen (101).

“The top three were untouchable,” adds the coach. “The other three of the usual top four also ran well with Tucker Sjomeling running his personal best to be our third guy.”

The girls were hoping for 10th but some illness took its toll and finished 12th.

Leaders were senior Sarah Trocke (31), Emily Hartman (47), eighth-grader Shanie Streachek (64), ninth-grader Madeline Sladek (88), senior Kia Vanasse (95), sophomore Olivia Jacobs (97) and senior Julia Volker (102).

Next year is looking good for the Tiger boys who return the top four runners.
