The first gymnastics club state qualifier meet in St. Cloud Oct. 6-7 punched tickets for 13 North Shore Gymnastics Club members to advance to the state meet in December.
An all-around score of 32.00 or higher earns a gymnast a chance to compete in the state competition. Five Level 5 North Shore gymnasts and all eight on the Level 6 squad met or exceeded that qualification.
Makena Rasmussen (8) placed sixth overall in Level 5. Rasmussen’s 9.55 on uneven bars was the high score of the day. A 9.00 in floor exercise boosted her all-around score to 34.90.
North Shore’s second highest all-around score of 34.450 was turned in by Samantha Poeschl (11).
Hadley Juran (10), Olivia Jahnke (9) and Colette Mayhew (10) also qualified for state in the all-around. As a team, Level 5 brought home the fourth place trophy.
All of North Shore’s eight Level 6 gymnasts achieved a score that qualified them for the State Tournament.
In the 10-year-old age group, Sara Murley scored 32.325 in the all-around. Abigail Ylitalo (12) finished sixth at 34.70. Taylor Burnham (12) scored 33.975.
The three other age 12 Level 6 gymnasts going to state are Sydney Donaldson (33.750), Meagan Boecker (32.95) and Sophie Andrews (32.425).
In the 13 and over age group, Nicole Albertson was second in the all-around at 33.50. Albertson placed second in both the balance beam and in floor exercise and was third on vault.
Placing fifth in the all-around was Kendra Johnson with 32.300. As a Level 6 team, North Shore ranked sixth.
The next state qualifier meet will be at North Shore Gymnastics in Orono Nov. 3-4.
