Osseo spikers seeded second in section volleyball tourney

Osseo receives the No. 2 seed in this week’s Section 5 volleyball tournament. The Orioles open against either Champlin Park or Coon Rapids at home at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25. The winner advances to the semifinal Oct. 31 at Anoka. The section final is Nov. 3 at Anoka.

Blaine, the Northwest Suburban Conference champion and the second ranked team in the state, is the No. 1 seed. St. Michael-Albertville is the third seed and Totino-Grace fourth.

Osseo finished the regular season 16-10 overall and 7-3 and in third place in the conference.

The Orioles ended their season with two tough tournaments. They first traveled to Apple Valley and faced off with #3A Minneota in the first round. Osseo played inspired volleyball and won 25-19, 25-19. They were led by Tina Boe’s 7 kills in the match. Osseo then faced off with #10AAA Chanhassen and lost 16-25, 21-25. Megan Pekarek had 20 assists in the match.

In the fifth-place bracket semifinals Osseo defeated Rochester John Marshall 25-12, 21-25, 15-13. Hannah Pekarek and Jackie Jones combined for 21 kills.

Osseo then lost to Burnsville 18-25, 27-29 and finished in sixth place. Phillis Webb had five kills in the match.

Over MEA Osseo traveled up to Moorhead for the Pumpkin Classic and faced Fergus Falls and Litchfield in pool play.

Fergus Falls dominated Osseo in the opening match 11-25, 18-25. Libero Jazlynn Tanielu had six digs in the match. Osseo bounced back and beat Litchfield 25-16, 25-22 to finish 1-1 in pool play. The trio of Jones, Pekarek, and Boe combined for 21 kills and 25 digs.

Litchfield went on to defeat Fergus Falls to create a three-way tie in pool play. Osseo finished second in the pool by a plus minus ratio and was place in the fifth-place bracket.

Osseo defeated #7A Win-E-Mac 26-14, 25-15. Osseo was led by Shiah Sander’s six kills.

In the fifth-place match Osseo defeated DGF 25-22, 25-21. Jones had seven kills and four aces. Megan Pekarek tallied 69 assists on the weekend while running a well-balanced offense.
