‘Diary of Anne Frank’
NOW TO OCT. 21 — This fall, Yellow Tree Theater, 320 Fifth Ave. S.E. in Osseo, opens their fifth season with “The Diary of Anne Frank” by the late playwright Wendy Kesselman. Performances are Sept. 21 through Oct. 21, with show times at 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays and at 2 p.m. on Sundays. OCT. 19 — The Osseo Fire Department will host a steak fry Friday, Oct. 19, from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Osseo-Maple Grove American Legion, 260 Fourth Ave. S.E. in Osseo. The menu includes the option of steak, chicken or shrimp for $10, or a combination of steak and shrimp for $12. All meals come with a baked potato and bread. The steak fry will benefit the Osseo Fire Department Relief Association.
Halloween Family Fun
OCT. 20 — The Maple Grove Community Organization hosting its Happy Halloween Family Fun event Saturday, Oct. 20, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Weaver Lake Park, 8401 Dunkirk Lane. Wear a costume and bring parents. Events include following a map to 20+ stations of games like the Web of Confusion Maze, the Scarecrow Jump, inflatable rides, Esmeralda’s the Witches potion, pumpkin roll, Halloween Mini Golf, bingo, crafts, music and more. The event costs $5 per child, ages 2-8 years, adults are free. Additional refreshments will be available for a fee. OCT. 21 — The Osseo-Maple Grove American Legion Riders will be serving an omelet breakfast Sunday, Oct. 21, from 8 a.m. to noon. The breakfast will be at the Osseo-Maple Grove American Legion, 260 Fourth Ave. S.E. in Osseo. Come and enjoy an omelet of one’s own creation with ingredients and have it prepared right there by the cooks. The cost is $8 per person. The funds will go to support different veterans functions as well as other organizations that need help.

OCT. 21 — The Maple Grove Lions Club will be hosting a Belgian Waffle Breakfast Sunday, Oct. 21, at the Maple Grove Community Center, 12951 Weaver Lake Road. Food will be served from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. All proceeds raised go back into the Maple Grove community. Voter ID forum
OCT. 21 — Dane Smith, President of Growth and Justice, will discuss the broader implications of the Voter Restriction Amendment including how the Amendment will contribute to growing inequality in MN Sunday, Oct. 21, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the Main Street Meeting Room of the Maple Grove Library, 8001 Main Street N. The Voter Restriction Amendment will make it more difficult or impossible for many Minnesotans to vote, especially lower income residents, students, young people, minorities, the elderly and military personnel. This forum is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the Congressional District 3 DFL Outreach and Inclusion Committee.

Forum on jobs, taxes and fiscal responsibility
OCT. 24 — State and county officials will be at Champps in Maple Grove Wednesday, Oct. 24, from 7:30 to 9 a.m. for an interactive forum on jobs, taxes and fiscal responsibility. Rep. Joyce Peppin, Senator Warren Limmer and Speaker of the House Kurt Zellers will be joined by Sheriff Rich Stanek and Commissioner Jeff Johnson to discuss job creation, tax reform and fiscally responsible approaches that meet our financial obligations and put Minnesotans back to work. The forum is hosted by the Senate District 34 Republican Party and the community is encouraged to attend. Possible topics include an overview of the state and national economy, tax and regulatory reform, private sector job creation strategies, the role of education in developing a well-skilled workforce, worker retraining and other topics of interest to attendees. OCT. 26 — The Osseo-Maple Grove American Legion Auxiliary will be hosting a Steak Fry at the Osseo American Legion, 260 Fourth Ave. S.E. in Osseo, Friday, Oct. 26. The usual ‘steak fry’ menu includes steak, walleye, and/or shrimp served with a baked potato and coleslaw or salad. The meals will be served between 5:30 and 8:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome, so bring the family, neighbors and friends.
Kiddie Halloween Parade
OCT. 27 — The annual Halloween Kiddie Parade will be Saturday, Oct. 27, starting at noon. The line-up for the parade is near North Clinic. Kids dressed in costumes march along Central Avenue to the Osseo Community Center, where treat bags are given and games are played. Osseo Lions Club is sponsoring this event.
‘Murder on Main Street’ series
OCT. 27 — The Maple Grove Library, 8001 Main Street N., will host a mystery writer’s series. The final program is “Murder on Main Street Author Talk: Ellen Hart” Saturday, Oct. 27, at 1 p.m. Award-winning Hart will talk about her most recent book, “Rest for the Wicked.” She will offer a glimpse into the “writer’s life” and her thoughts on the modern mystery novel. Q&A will follow. The program is sponsored by the Friends of the Maple Grove Library. The program is free and open to adults.
French toast breakfast
OCT. 28 — A French Toast Breakfast for WomenSource will be Sunday, Oct. 28, from 8:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the St. Vincent de Paul School cafeteria or gym. A freewill offering will be accepted. The net proceeds will be donated to WomenSource, a non-profit pregnancy center providing free pregnancy tests and counseling, diapers, formula, clothing and an “Earn While You Learn” client incentive program.
