The Park Center CI adapted soccer team has surprised opponents by opening the season with a 4-0 start, including wins against two of the top teams in the conference. The Pirates began the season with an 11-6 win over North Suburban and have been on a roll since.
The team traveled to Mounds View Thursday for what was expected to be a tough physical contest. However, defensive specialist Kevin Hofer scored the Pirates’ first goal 27 seconds into the game and the team never looked back.
Center Augie Wodrich scored five goals and added three assists to lead the Pirates to a 10-2 win. Hofer scored three times and dished out two assists. Aaron Clark notched a goal and two assists. Tasha Feigh also had three assists. Megan Thompson earned her second win in net.
Park Center blasted Stillwater 9-1 in its home contest Friday. Once again the Pirates scored their first goal in under a minute as they cruised to a win.
Clark led the team with three goals and two assists. Wodrich and Hofer each added a pair of goals. Late in the game, senior defenseman Lavelle Riser-Blackman lofted clearing shot the length of the floor and over the Ponies goalie into the net for his first goal of the season. Thompson and Hofer split time in net to help the Pirates notch their third win of the season.
The Pirates won 10-2 at Robbinsdale Cooper for their third game of the week. Wodrich, Hofer, and Alex Kreidler executed the perfect triangle pass to score the pirates first goal in under 45 seconds. Wodrich, Kreidler, Thompson, and Paige Faber each scored a pair of goals while Clark and Feigh each added a pair of assists. Hofer’s tough defensive play held the Robins to just 11 shots in the first half. He stepped into net in the second half and stopped 18 of 19 shots by the Robins. Austin Rohach scored his first goal of the season in the second half.
The Pirates will host newcomers Columbia Heights for their next game Oct. 23. Wodrich has 98 career goals and will probably score number 100 at that game. He will join Christian Brown, Jack Dougba, and Nick Fridgen in the Pirates 100-goal club.
