2-vehicle crash sends drivers to area hospitals
The West Hennepin Public Safety Department responded to a crash at 5:17 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 3, according to Sergeant Gary Kroells.
The crash occurred at the intersection of County Road 92 and Highway 12 in the city of Independence.
Officers found two cars were involved and due to the severity of the crash, Hwy. 12 was closed for approximately one hour.
Preliminary investigation shows that Marcus Milles, 24, from Coon Rapids southbound on County Road 92, in a Chevrolet Cavalier, approached the stop sign at Highway 12, pulled into the intersection and was struck by a westbound vehicle driven by Sandra Peterson, 64, from Howard Lake. Peterson was driving a Chevrolet Cobalt.
Milless’ vehicle ended up in the south ditch of Highway 12. Maple Plain Fire Rescue used the JAWS for Life to extract Milless from his vehicle. Milless had some facial injuries and his airbags were deployed. Milless was not cognizant of where he was, what happened and was transported by Life Link to the hospital.
Peterson’s vehicle ended up in the middle of the road with heavy front end damage and the airbag was deployed. Peterson had chest pain and was transported by North Memorial Ambulance to the hospital.
West Hennepin Public Safety was assisted at the scene by Maple Plain Fire and Rescue, Life Link, North Memorial Ambulance ground rig and Police Officer’s from Medina PD, Three Rivers Park PD and Minnetrista PD. The officers assisted in setting up the landing zone for North Air Care.
Sergeant Gary Kroells said, “It was apparent that Milless failed to yield the right-of-way and caused the crash. Both motorists were wearing their seatbelts, their air bags deployed in the vehicles which prevented more serious injuries.”
