‘Diary of Anne Frank’
NOW TO OCT. 21 — This fall, Yellow Tree Theater, 320 Fifth Ave. S.E. in Osseo, opens their fifth season with “The Diary of Anne Frank” by the late playwright Wendy Kesselman. Performances are Sept. 21 through Oct. 21, with show times at 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays and at 2 p.m. on Sundays. Maple Grove candidate forum
OCT. 4 — The North Hennepin Area Chamber of Commerce and League of Women Voters will host a Candidate Forum Thursday, Oct. 4, at the Maple Grove Government Center, 12800 Arbor Lakes Parkway. City Council candidates will speak from 6:30 to 8 p.m. State Senate 34, State Representative 34A and State Representative 34B candidates will talk from 8:15 to 9:45 p.m.
Kids Fire Safety Day
OCT. 6 — Saturday, Oct. 6, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. is Maple Grove Home Depot Kids Fire Safety Day. There will be a kids workshop from 9 a.m. to noon. The Maple Grove Police and Fire departments will bring a squad car and fire truck for kids to see up close. Maple Grove Hospital and North Ambulance will also be in attendance. OCT. 6 — Minnesota Taekwondo Association (MTA) to host Family Carnival and Fundraiser Saturday, Oct. 6, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at World Taekwondo Academy, 6493 Sycamore Court N. in Maple Grove. MTA is a non-profit organization that helps 100’s of youth, athletes, and coaches achieve their dreams. Support MTA’s efforts by enjoying carnival games, silent auction, grand prize raffle, or by taking a shot at dunking USA’s 2012 Assistant Olympic Taekwondo Coach, Grandmaster Eui Lee. OCT. 6 — The Third Annual Oktoberfest in Osseo will take place Saturday, Oct. 6, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Main Street Pharmacy parking lot. Games for kids and adults, activities, food and beverages will be available. There will also be a hot dog-eating contest. Local band Two Hicks and a Chick will perform from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Elk River German Band will play from 2 to 6 p.m.

Block family benefit
OCT. 7 — A Block family benefit is Sunday, Oct. 7, with a best ball scramble shotgun start golf tournament and spaghetti dinner/silent auction and raffle. Autumn Woods Classic
OCT. 13 — The Annual Autumn Wood Classic takes place Saturday, Oct. 13, from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Elm Creek Park Reserve in Maple Grove. The Classic features a 10K run, 5K run/walk and 1K kids’ run. Team 5K and 10K categories are also available. Family activities include musical entertainment, climbing wall, kids’ obstacle course, crafts and displays. Cost for the 10K and 5K races is $29 for day-of registration and just $23 for pre-registration. Cost for the 1K kids’ run is $9 day-of and just $5 for pre-registration. OCT. 15 — The Maple Grove Library, 8001 Main Street N., will host a mystery writer’s series. The next program is “Murder on Main Street Author Talk: Monica Ferris” Monday, Oct. 15, at 6:30 p.m. Ferris is an author with many hats and names: Mary Monica Pulver, Mary Kuhfeld, Margaret Frazer or Ferris. She’ll talk about her current “Threadbare,” which features the popular sleuth, Betsy Devonshire. Ferris’ newest book, “And Then You Dye,” will be published in December.
