The Maple Grove swim and dive team continued their undefeated conference streak with a win over Coon Rapids Sept. 27. The night was also a celebration of the team’s 11 seniors and all parents, with food, fun and laughter at a party following the 101-to-79 victory.
“It’s hard to believe that this is our last year on the team, but it makes it a little easier knowing the girls will be in such great hands,” said Emily Schwen, one of the four team captains. “The juniors made it really special for all of us seniors and we’ll remember it for years to come.”
Brooke Soller, Emily Sjolander, Erin Buck and Sarah Dill won the first race of the night, the 200 yard Medley Relay, with a time of 2:02.34. Kirsten Adank, a senior, took the top spot in the 200 yard Freestyle with a time of 2:09.86. Maple Grove also took the final event of the night as a team of M. Hebzynski, Edyn Isaacs, S. Dill and Jarena Dickey lead the 400 Freestyle Relay with a time of 4:04.26.
The night ended with a royalty theme as each senior was crowned by her teammates and feted at a party with a spectacular buffet of food from local eateries, stories and gifts, beautiful poster boards and a keepsake program.
“We wanted to make the night special because for most of us, these seniors are our best friends,” said junior Molly Hebzynski. “It will be extremely hard to see them go, but we wish them the best of luck for whatever their plans are after high school. We love our seniors.”
