Ride for the Girls
SEPT. 29 — The Ladies at Harley will host a Ride for the Girls Saturday, Sept. 29, to raise money for breast cancer research and support. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. at Crow River Harley Davidson, 822 Babcock Blvd. W. (Highway 12) in Delano. The 100-mile ride will begin at 10:30 a.m., with riders heading to Kimball and then back to Crow River Harley Davidson for lunch, prizes and raffle drawing. Riders of all brands of bikes are welcome. Cost of $15 for bikers and $10 for riders includes lunch. Proceeds will be donated to the Pink Street Party benefit for the Buffalo Hospital Foundation Cancer Care Fund, set for 4 to 9 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 4 in downtown Buffalo.
SEPT. 29 — Ridgeview Medical Center offers the newly revised American Red Cross Babysitter’s Training Course Saturday, Sept. 29, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. This updated course gives 11- to 15 year-olds the skills and confidence to be great babysitters in a fun, fast-paced, interactive format. Library Art Show Open House
OCT. 2 — The Delano Public Library, 160 Railroad Ave. E., will host an Open House from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2 , to begin its 27th annual art show. Artists from the Delano Art Guild will demonstrate their styles and techniques from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Jill Woodward will paint and assemble Native American style teepees and will assist community members wanting to participate. An art book will be given away in a drawing for all those present. The art show will be on display from Oct. 2 through Saturday, Oct. 27, throughout the library. Fall Morning Stories
OCT. 2 – 30 — The Delano Public Library, 160 Railroad Ave. E., is offering a Fall Morning Stories series of preschool story times for children ages three to five. Fall Morning Stories will take place on Tuesday mornings, 10:30 to 11 a.m., through Oct. 30. Preschool story times encourage literacy and include stories, songs, rhymes and fun. Spirit of Community breakfast
OCT. 3 — Volunteers will get tips on how to spread the word about their organizations at the Spirit of Community breakfast, set for 7:15 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Delano City Hall, 234 Second St. N. Keynote speaker will be Katie Bottiger, of the Minnesota Association for Volunteer Administration (MAVA). She has been director of volunteer resources at Hammer Residences Inc. since June 2000. Celebrate tea with story heroine Angelina Ballerina and the library and learn fun tips for healthy eating, make a cool teatime craft, and dine on morsels fit for a star. Five-Year Highway Construction and Bridge Improvement Meeting

OCT. 9 —Wright County will host a public meeting on its proposed five-year highway and bridge construction program at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, in the Commissioner’s Board Room of the Wright County Government Center in Buffalo. OCT. 15 — A card marathon for men and women will begin at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, at the Delano Middle School media center, located on Tiger Drive north of Elm Avenue. The General Federated Women’s Club of Delano will host the marathon on the third Monday of every month from October through April, unless otherwise announced. GFWC charges a minimum fee for the marathon, which includes both 500 and cribbage. Last year over 50 people came to play. Refreshments will be served. OCT. 18 — There will be a “Meet the Candidates” event Thursday, Oct. 18, beginning at 7 p.m. at Old Town Hall (6390 Town Hall Drive). Please come and meet the local candidates so you are informed on their stands. There will be set questions asked by a monitor, and a time for audience questions drawn from a box. Reading assistance dog
OCT. 18 — Cuddle up and read with Annie, a certified reading assistance dog, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at the Delano Public Library, 160 Railroad Ave. E. Sign ups are on the same day for 15 minutes of one on one reading time. The library will provide books of all reading levels for a “pawsitive” reading experience. 60 Plus and Healthy Clinic
OCT. 23 — The 60 Plus and Healthy Clinics provided by Wright County Public Health will provide foot care for Wright County senior citizens from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, at Rockford Walnut Place Apartments, 8830 Walnut Place. Clinic staff will trim toenails for seniors who have a health condition such as diabetes or are unable to trim toenails themselves. Staff will check blood pressures if needed and as time allows. Cost for foot care services is $15. Anyone unable to pay the fee will not be turned away.
