SEPT. 22 — On Saturday, Sept 22, from 3 to 6 p.m. Community Unknighted (diversity group in St Michael-Albertville) will be having its second annual picnic at St. Michael Rec Center (3150 Lander Ave NE St Michael). Broasted chicken and hotdogs along with refreshments will be served. The group is looking for involvement with the public safety community similar to last year (fire trucks from both cities, Sheriffs Office and Allina Ambulance Service).
SEPT. 23 — The annual Mary Queen of Peace Parish Festival is Sunday, Sept. 23, at the St. Martin Church Campus, 21304 Church Ave., Rogers. Festivities will begin at 10 a.m. and will end with the grand raffle drawing at 5 p.m. Chicken dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Activities include bingo, pull tabs, silent auction, farmers market, craft booth, cake walk and games. Food court includes hamburgers, pork chops, hot dogs, pie ice cream, popcorn, pop and beer. The festival also includes activities for the whole family.
Backyard Success With Apples
SEPT. 24 — Rogers Library is hosting “Master Gardener: Backyard Success With Apples” Monday, Sept. 24, 6 p.m. Registration required; begins Aug. 27; limit 20. Add beauty to your landscape with apple trees. Learn about the different varieties, selecting a planting site, proper planting techniques, decisions after planting, pruning fruit trees, and pest and disease management. Presented in collaboration with Hennepin County Master Gardeners, University of Minnesota Extension.
Farm Bureau meeting
SEPT. 24 — Hennepin County Farm Bureau President, Marvin Johnson, announces the Annual Meeting will be Monday, Sept. 24, at the Corcoran City Center, County Road 116 between County Roads 30 and 10. A buffet dinner will be served from 7:15 to 8 p.m. Each paid Farm Bureau membership will receive one free dinner. Non-members are welcome. Many door prizes will be given. SEPT. 28 — The STMA Coaches Association is hosting a pork chop dinner prior to the Friday, Sept. 28, STMA football game. Dinner is from 4:30 to 6:15 p.m. at the Middle School West. Proceeds go to the coaches association.
Tim Larson Memorial 5K
SEPT. 29 — The Tim Larson Memorial 5K is Saturday, Sept. 29, behind St. Michael-Albertville Middle School West, 11343 50th St, Albertville. Pre-registered runners are $20 and this needs to be mailed by Sept. 22; $25 day of race. Pre-registered runners are guaranteed a shirt … there will be a limited supply on race day. OCT. 6 — “Rock the Land” a day-long, outdoor fall music festival, is taking place in St. Michael Saturday, Oct. 6, located just a mile west of County Rd. 19, on 30th St. NE on the Alleluia Lutheran church land (by the Trinity Chapel.) The day will kick-off with a 5K, followed by all-day live bands, kids activities, great food, silent auction, a beer garden and more. OCT. 6 — Rogers Fire Department Invites all to the Annual Open House Saturday, Oct. 6, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 21201 Memorial Drive. Come and tour the fire station. Enjoy food and refreshments. Watch a live auto extrication. See the North Helicopter land on site. Check out the vehicles and meet responders from the Rogers Police Department, Hennepin County Sheriff’s Department and North Memorial Ambulance Service.
OCT. 6 — A “Coles Cause” benefit is Saturday, Oct. 6, at Broadway Bar and Pizza in Rogers. It is a benefit to raise money for Childrens Hospitals of MN especially designated for their new Neuroscience Center going in at St. Paul Childrens. It will be a State of the Art facility for a neurological disorder or disease or trauma. The benefit features live music from two local bands that are “Short on Cash” and “Hollow Point.” The event begins at 6 p.m. and ends at 12 a.m. It will cost $10 per person to get in. There will be a Silent Auction also. The event will take place outdoors under a large tent behind Broadway Bar and Pizza. Jesse and Shannon Buckingham lost Cole almost 4 years ago from complications of a neurological disease and would love to see this amazing facility be available to other families that have to go through these very difficult situations and maybe their children can live a long life because of it.
OCT. 6 — Hanover Fire Relief Association is hosting a benefit for one of its own Saturday, Oct. 6, from 4 to 8 p.m. at hanover City Hall, 11250 Fifth St. Cost is $10 per adult, $5 for children ages 10 and under. Amy Kottke, wife of firefighter Brian Kottke, is in need of help. Unable to work and home bound, Amy’s health has deteriorated to the point she is not able to take care of herself or family. Following numerous clinic visits and seeing doctors and specialists, and hospital stays, the cause of her condition is still not determined. The financial struggle is only beginning. Benefit will feature a 2012 Polaris ATV, $1,000 in cash and $500 in cash. Tickets available at Tom Thumb and Bankwest in Hanover. Donations being accepted at Bankwest, 11000 River Rd. NE. OCT. 13 — St. Michael-Albertville Rotary Club is hosting a Pancake Breakfast from 8-10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at Pubhouse 19, 5651 LaCentre Avenue, Albertville. The breakfast includes pancakes, bacon, sausage, eggs, milk, coffee and juice. Cost is $5 per person. Proceeds will benefit STMA Rotary Club’s local service projects as well as Rotary International’s PolioPlus effort to immunize all the world’s children against polio.
