Area residents and families can stop by the improved facility at 9030 Forestview Lane N., between 9 a.m. and noon and take a look inside.

Public Works Director Ken Ashfeld said those that show up to the open house will be able to go on a guide tour of the facility, where they can look at the building.

Back on June 4, Ashfeld said the building is energy efficient. This includes lots of windows to allow natural light into the building, which was the key objective in the project. There are also sky lights that look like a light and lights that be controlled to shut off or on if needed.

The Public Works site allows for operations and the city’s equipment to be located in one location. This building is also the location for residents to drop-off items during the city’s clean-up events.

This newly-expanded building makes room for all the administrative services of the Public Works Department, vehicle maintenance and storage, workshops and for outdoor storage of street, utility and parks maintenance materials. Previously, the equipment of the department had been stored in several locations around the city.

Ashfeld said during the open house on Sept. 22, “Employees and staff will also be there to answer questions about the building and equipment that is used. People can also ask Public Works employees of their responsibilities and daily tasks.”

Those attending the open house can learn facts about the building as well

“This will also be an excellent time to view the equipment that is used,” Ashfeld said.

Public Works trucks, a police car and a fire truck will be on display for people to check out.

“We will be having a trivia quiz at end of the open house with a gift prize for the winner,” Ashfeld added.

There will be light refreshments and cake for those attending the open house. A balloon artist will also be around for the kids.

Everyone is welcome to attend the open house at the Public Works Building.
