Students participate in campaign prior to football game
Traffic crashes continue to be the number one killer of teens in Minnesota, where each year distracted driving is a factor in 1 out of 4 crashes resulting in more than 70 deaths and 350 serious injuries.
To combat these alarming trends, AAA Minneapolis has launched an innovative safe driving advocacy program called, Fasten & Focus. The campaign targets an audience of young drivers (age 16 – 30) in the Twin Cities metro area with messages and tactics that focus on safe driving behaviors, specifically related to distracted driving, through creative initiatives including special events, advertising/public service messages, an online resource center, research, and traditional and social media outreach.
The Fasten & Focus campaign came to Osseo Senior High School Friday, Sept. 14, prior to the varsity football game. The campaign was part of a pre-game rally.
Over 50 students signed a pledge to drive distraction-free. Part of the event included a crash car from a distracted driving crash and activities with partners KSTC-45 and Park Nicollet’s Be You Campaign.
The Fasten & Focus campaign, which raises awareness of the dangers and serious consequences of distracted driving, is devoted to helping drivers understand the importance of focusing on driving, and only driving, every time they get behind the wheel.
