Kasey Roberts set three pool records at the Melrose dual meet last Thursday, helping the St. Michael-Albertville girls’ swim and dive team to a 111-75 non-conference victory.

Roberts set Melrose pool records in the 200 individual (2:13.23), 100 breaststroke (1:09.14) and teamed with senior Katie Schmitz, sophomore Lexi Heil and freshman Carly Roberts to set a new pool record in the 400 freestyle relay (3:46.78).

Senior Krista Erickson finished first with a score of 203.35 in the diving event.

Big Lake Relays

The Knights placed first overall with 394 points at Saturday’s Big Lake Relay Invitational. Six teams competed at the invite with Big Lake finishing a distant second with 326 points. Foley, Cambridge-Isanti, Sauk Rapids-Rice and Princeton rounded out the field of six.

Junior Josie Burns, Heil and Carly and Kasey Roberts set a pool record in the 200 medley relay. In the final meet of the day, the 400 freestyle relay team of Schmitz, Heil and the Robert’s sisters again set another pool record.

The Knights placed first in nine of the 10 events at the invite and STMA head coach Tom Guillou said he was pleased with the killer instinct his team showed.

“I put a lot of emphasis on the kids being able to finish a meet well,” Guillou said. “It takes both physical preparation and mental toughness to finish a meet with your best swim of the day. The girls set their site on that pool record and it helped drive them to a great finish.”
