Rockford Schools launches Hall of Fame for alumni Sept. 14
Rockford Schools invites the public to attend a new “Hall of Fame” induction ceremony on Friday, Sept. 14 beginning with a program at 5 p.m. at the Rockford High School auditorium, followed by a social hour at 6 and recognition during halftime at the big home game where the Rockets take on Kimball.
- Miles Johnson taught social studies, physical education and coached at Rockford from 1959 to 1989.
- Former band teacher, John Klinger, made beautiful music with Rockford students for 33 years (1963 to 1996),
- Keri (Bakker) Esslinger, a 1997 graduate, was an all around athlete and standout in volleyball, basketball and softball. She works in the education field.
- Joel Miller, a 1978 RHS grad, was a theatre and music student who is a working actor in California.
This is a program, said District Administrative Assistant Kathy Ehlers, that has been discussed for years but, until now, it has never really taken root. The Tradition of Excellence Committee, Ehlers said, took the effort on and created the official distinction, designated the recipients and worked on putting together a program, something both she and Glenn Klaphake, RHS Assistant Principal and Activities Director, have been involved with. The program recognizes excellence in alumni for a wide scope of extra curricular activities.
This event offers students, parents, educators and the public a chance to hear from, and meet with, alumni that demonstrated a proven path of success since graduation, and a chance to applaud their efforts.
The Hall of Fame inductees are John Klinger, Keri (Bakker) Esslinger, Miles Johnson and Joel Miller.
