After placing taking part in the Rockford Invitational cross country meet last Thursday, Delano will play host to its own invite starting at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13 at Lake Rebecca Park.
Teams include Waconia, Rockford, Maple Lake, Southwest Christian, St. Croix Preparatory Academy and FAIR School.
The Tiger boys took second behind Orono at Rockford’s invite at Shamrock golf course, paced by top 10 finishes by junior Sam Thomas (4), sophomore Adam Armbruster (5) and sophomore Daniel Clark (9). Close behind was eighth-grader Tucker Sjomeling (13).
Delano’s varsity included senior Trevor Reed (32), sophomore Mike Bunker (34) and senior Jacob Hoen (53).
Rockford boys placed sixth, helped by two Rockets running in their first cross country meet, junior Ty Griffin (20) and junior Austin Witthuhn (27).
The two newcomers finished behind sophomore Nick Klonne (18) and in front of sophomore Drew Haften (33), junior Austin Achtelik (42), sophomore Nico Vandanacher (44) and sophomore Nathan Schumacher (52).
In the girls event at Rockford, Delano was sixth, paced by sophomore Emily Hartman (10), senior Sarah Trocke (11), senior Julia Volker (35), senior Kiah Vanesse (37), ninth-grader Madaline Sladek (38), sophomore Kathryn Goldsmith (39) and sophomore Olivia Jacobs (49).
“Ty and Austin both did a great job,” said Rockford coach Jason Hester. “The boy’s team is still young and learning, but the potential is there. We are going to work on some things this week at Delano on Thursday.”
Rockford has not had enough varsity runners to earn a team score at meets. Two ran on varsity at the invite, while four ran in the JV race and two in the Junior High event.
“Lydia Buffie has been running better than she has the past couple of years,” adds Hester about his senior who placed 28th at the invite. “She came out determined this year and her dedication is starting to pay off. The other varsity runner is Emily Pothast.”
