After a busy summer parade season, the Champlin Park Marching Rebels are ready to present “Theseus” for field show competition.

Filled with love, hate and death, the story of Theseus has lived on for thousands of years and is still told today.

King Minos used to punish his enemies by sending them into an intricate labyrinth, that he created, to be killed by the Minotaur. Living deep within the labyrinth, the half man-half bull beast waited for his next meal as the travelers searched for their freedom. Theseus, who was the son of the King of Athens, volunteered to be one of the offerings to the Minotaur in the hope that he could be the one to finally destroy it.

Before setting off on his quest, Theseus was met by Princess Ariadne, who happened to be the daughter of King Minos. The princess, who would eventually fall madly in love with Theseus, tells him how to get through the labyrinth to find the Minotaur. Theseus eventually traveled into the vast labyrinth and with the help from Ariadne found the Minotaur. After a battle for the ages, Theseus defeated the Minotaur and escaped the traverse maze to become the hero of Athens. Joe Matuzak and John Meissner arranged the drill.

The marching band also welcomes new director, Steve Johnson. Johnson began marching at Park Center High School where he participated in marching band from 2002-2006.
