Free programs for young readers, clubs and other activities for the entire family will be presented free in September at Hennepin County libraries.
Following are programs scheduled at the Maple Grove Library, 8001 Main Street N., in September:
“Master Gardener: Fall Yard and Garden Care,” Tuesday, Sept. 11, at 6:30 p.m. — Fall is the time to plant bulbs and to prepare the yard and garden for winter. Find out what to do for the lawn, what and when to fertilize, proper techniques for composting, protecting shrubs, winterizing roses and covering perennials. Presented in collaboration with Hennepin County Master Gardeners, University of Minnesota Extension.
“Money Matters: A Cost-Conscious Approach to the College Search,” Monday, Sept. 17, at 6:30 p.m. — Carol Stack, co-author of “The Financial Aid Handbook: Getting the Education You Want for the Price You Can Afford,” will present a down-to-earth approach for affording college, common myths about college financial aid and suggestions for finding scholarships. Time for Q&A. Sponsored by the Friends of the Maple Grove Library.
“Preschool Storytime,” Tuesdays, Sept. 18 through Nov. 13, at 10:30 a.m. — For children ages 4 to 6. Help a preschooler get ready to read. Enjoy stories together and build language skills.
“Toddler Storytime,” Thursdays, Sept. 20 through Nov. 15, from 10:30 to 11 a.m. — For children ages 2 and 3. Interact with a toddler to nurture a love of books. Learn letters, sounds, and new words. Be active with music and movement.
“Baby Storytime,” Fridays, Sept. 21 and 28, Oct. 12 and 19, from 10:15 to 10:45 a.m. or from 11:15 to 11:45 a.m. — Registration is required and is limited to 20. For children from birth to 24 months. Delight and stimulate a baby’s senses with books and music. Build brain power.
“Teen Anime Club,” Saturdays, Sept. 22, Oct. 20 and Nov. 17, from 2:30 to 4 p.m. — Grades seven to 12. Can’t get enough anime? Join up to watch and review brand-new anime episodes, share artwork and hang out with other anime fans. Sponsored by the Friends of the Maple Grove Library.
“Murder on Main Street Author Talk: Julie Kramer,” Saturday, Sept. 29, at 1 p.m. — Join us for an afternoon with award-winning author and former WCCO-TV producer. Kramer will talk about her hot new mystery, “Shunning Sarah,” set in the Amish area of rural Minnesota. Sponsored by the Friends of the Maple Grove Library.
The Osseo Library, 415 Central Avenue, will hosting a “Used Book Sale” Friday, Sept. 7, from noon to 4 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 8, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Friends of the Library will host a sale of hundreds of adult and children’s fiction and nonfiction books in hardcover and paperback. Most books, withdrawn from the Hennepin County Library system or donated by the public, will be priced $1 or less. Funds raised will benefit the library. There will also be a face painter on Sept. 8 from 10 a.m. to noon.
