Osseo football coach Derrin Lamker predicted senior running back Bridgeport Tusler is going to have a monster season.
If the first game was any indications, Lamker is correct. Tusler scored all five of Osseo touchdowns to lead the Orioles to a 37-21 season opening win against Centennial Thursday, Aug. 30, at home
Tusler scored touchdown runs of 49 yards and 3 yards to put Osseo up 15-7 after one quarter. Tusler then caught a 4-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Garrison Gillard in the second quarter and a 26-yard field goal by Aaron Bergh made it 25-7 Osseo at halftime.
The Orioles increased the lead to 31-7 in the third quarter when Tusler scored on a 2-yard run. But Centennial answered with two straight touchdowns to cut Osseo’s lead to 31-21 midway in the fourth quarter.
Osseo put together the clinching touchdown drive to put the game away. Tusler was the workhorse as he ran for 39 yards on 3 carries and ended the march with his fifth touchdown of the night on a 1-yard dive.
Tusler finished with 119 yards on 16 carries. Gillard passed for 51 yards and Conner Kittelson had two receptions for 35 yards.
Osseo next visits district rival Maple Grove Friday, Sept. 7.
