Eagan, Totino-Grace edge Rogers girls in soccer

The lone goal came with three minutes left as the Rogers girls lost to Eagan 1-0 on the Eagles field.
Royal goalie Cassidy Stutelberg made several tough saves before Eagan’s Rosie Anderson took a shot that glanced off her hands and into the goal.
Eagan (2-0) had won their opener 11-1 over Rochester Mayo.
“I’m happy with the way we played. Our defense was very impressive,” said Royal coach Holly Sutton. “Cassidy was devastated that she couldn’t stop that shot. I told her you can only keep up that much intensity and focus for so long. We needed to score.”
The Royals are 0-1-1 and have not scored yet. They tied Park Center 0-0 Thursday in a match shortened by 19 minutes due to lightning.
“It’s only the second game, We are trying to figure out the best combination,” said Sutton, whose top returning scorer, Gabby Moter (25 career goals), will miss half the season with an injury.
The Royals had Jenna Trochlil and Kirsten Heikkinen up front. Sutton said they’re trying to get comfortable and confident.
The girls soccer team lost to Totino-Grace 1-0 Tuesday, Aug. 28, in Fridley, falling to 0-2.
The lone goal was scored by Eagle freshman Nicole Newman midway through the second half. T-G goalie Gabby Eisfelder stopped five shots.
Next for Rogers is the conference opener at STMA Sept. 6.
