Hamel Lions Flea Market

THROUGH OCTOBER — The Hamel Lions Flea Market will be open every Sunday from 6 a.m. through noon in the parking lot at the Medina Entertainment Center, 500 Highway 55, Medina. Delano Community Market

SATURDAYS — The new Delano Community Market is open on Saturdays through Sept. 15 from 9 a.m. to noon on River Street in downtown Delano. Offerings include food, artwork, crafts and other unique goods. Shop while listening to live music. A table is available for home-based businesses each week. Movie in the Park

SEPT. 7 — Delano Partners in Education will feature the movie “The Lorax” at the group’s Movie in the Park, scheduled for dusk Friday, Sept. 7, in front of Delano Elementary School, located on Tiger Drive at County Road 30.

Bags and BBQ

SEPT. 8 — Trinity Lutheran Church in Watertown Saturday, Sept. 8, will host a Bags and BBQ event to benefit Love in the Name of Christ – Heartland (Love INC) and Duluth/Northeast MN Disaster Relief. Anyone can come to partake of fun and food without being part of a team. The Bags Tournament will start at 10 a.m. Anyone without a partner can arrive at 9:30 a.m. to be paired with someone else as a team. Participants can pick either the competitive or recreational division. Registration, including two meal tickers, is $30 in advance or $40 day of the event. Food will be served at 11:30 a.m. Meal tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children.

Dad’s Belgian Waffles

SEPT. 8 — Dad’s Belgian Waffles will return from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, to the Delano City Hall Building, 234 Second St. N. in Delano, with proceeds benefiting the Delano Fire Relief Association and the Delano Senior Center. “All You Can Eat” waffles, sausages, flavored syrups and drinks will be on the menu at a cost of $7.50 in advance (purchased at the Senior Center) or $8.50 at the door. Cost for ages five and under is $3. A silent auction will run from 8 to 11 a.m. The Senior Center is accepting silent auction donations. Demolition derby

SEPT. 8 — The Corcoran Lions Demolition Derby is Saturday, Sept. 8, at 7 p.m. at Corcoran Lions Park. Featuring cars, trucks, compact cars and compact trucks. Beer and food on grounds, no coolers allowed. Free parking. Admission is $10 for ages 12 and older, $5 for ages 4 to 11, and 3 and under free. Haiti mini-market

SEPT. 9 — The 22nd Annual Haiti Mini-Market will be open at the corner of Highway 55 and County Road 8 in Maple Lake from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9. Shoppers will find fresh local garden produce, especially prepared horseradish, sauerkraut, salsa, jams, baked goods, plants for the home and more. For sale direct from Haiti will be Arabica coffee beans or ground coffee and pure vanilla. Barbecued pork sandwich will be offered lunch along with refreshments, salsa, chips and zucchini chip cookies. Pork Chop Dinner Fly-in

SEPT. 9 — The Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 878 and Wright Aero invite the public to a Pork Chop Dinner Fly-In at the Maple Lake Airport from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9. Aircraft on display are expected to include commercially built aircraft as well as experimental (homebuilt) aircraft, ultra lights, classics, antiques, war birds (military) and new Light Sport Aircraft. Wright Aero will offer airplane rides. Youngsters ages 8 to 17 can sign up for a free “Young Eagles” event that includes an introduction to aviation and an aircraft ride. Prediabetes Education

SEPT. 10 — Making lifestyle changes can help prevent the development of diabetes and improve the energy level for those diagnosed with prediabetes. This one-session class will provide information to help people learn what prediabetes is and how it is diagnosed; identify lifestyle changes that can prevent or delay the development of diabetes; identify who is at risk; set goals for making lifestyle changes; and understand continuation of care. This class is Monday, Sept. 10, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Ridgeview Medical Center’s Community Auditorium in Waconia. Fee is $20, which covers the participant and a support person. Sign ups are on the same day for 15 minutes of one on one reading time. The library will provide books of all reading levels for a “pawsitive” reading experience. Medina Celebration Day

SEPT. 22 — Fireworks at about 8 p.m. will climax festivities at Medina Celebration Day Saturday, Sept. 22, at Hamel Legion Park, 3200 Mill Drive. Beginning at 4 p.m., visitors can wander through a business expo and farmers market, play bingo and stop at food vendors. Family activities will start at 4:30 p.m. and include a Civil War re-enactment, K-9 and police car demonstrations, rides on an antique fire truck, “Smokey” the bear, inflatable bounce toy, helicopter visit, city plow truck, pumpkin painting, games and more.

Fall Heritage Festival

SEPT. 22 — The Fall Heritage Festival is returning to downtown Delano from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22. Visitors can stop at booths containing work of area artists, farmers’ produce, vendors’ wares and information from businesses and organizations. Food, a medallion hunt, chili cook-off, musical entertainment and more will round out offerings of the day. Event sponsors are the Delano Chamber of Commerce and the Delano Franklin Township Historical Society.
