Delano girls soccer roars to wins

Delano opened the girls soccer season by winning the Eye of the Tiger tournament last weekend, defeating Big Lake 7-0 and Mayer Lutheran 9-0.

The Tigers are home against Waconia, 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30 before going to Glencoe-Silver Lake, 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4.

Boys soccer lost the first game at the Tiger tourney 3-2 to Hutchinson Friday before defeating Mayer Lutheran 5-0 Saturday.

Delano has 55 players out for the team in grades 9-12, with 25 being seniors.

Captains are Sam Madden Matthew Peterson and Jon Dahl, who moved from forward to goalie. He may split time with senior Adam Vieau.

Another switch was made when junior defender Austin Stevens moved from defense to forward. Senior forward Daniel Brinkmann returns after being injured most of last year.

Next up is a 4:30 p.m. home game against Waconia, Aug. 30 and then heads to Glencoe-Silver Lake, 5 p.m. Sept. 4.
