NWSC swim relays
The first real test for Northwest Suburban Conference girls swimming and diving teams is always an intriguing one.
All 10 of the league’s school will gather at 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23 for the NWSC Relays at the Northdale Middle School pool in Coon Rapids for the swimming portion of what will serve as the season opener for the entire conference.
The divers will meet separately that night, as Centennial serves as the host school for the diving 6 p.m. diving competition.
Conference dual meets will begin in earnest the following week, and they will run through the second week of October.
The football preview edition of the paper comes out Thursday, Aug. 30, with most teams kicking off that same night.
Here’s a quick look at the first week for teams within the Sun Post coverage area:
Maple Grove at Armstrong; Eden Prairie at Champlin Park; Centennial at Osseo; Park Center at Anoka; Cooper at Benilde-St. Margaret’s and Brooklyn Center at Minnehaha Academy.
Kick-off is set for 7 p.m. for each all but one of those games. Brooklyn Center’s start time is 5 p.m..
Breck will open its season under the tradition Friday night lights. The Mustangs begin their season with a trip to New Life Academy for a 5 p.m. kick-off Friday, Aug. 31.
Soccer is underway
The high school soccer season started this week with games across the state.
Some scheduling highlights from that first week include a Aug. 23 trip from Burnsville to Centennial in game involving two of the either participants in last years Class AA girls state soccer tournament.
Champlin Park, Osseo, Park Center will also each debut that night on the girls side.
Two area teams face stiff competition on the opening night of boys play (Aug. 23), as Amrstrong visits Bloomington Jefferson and Champlin Park hosts Woodbury.
The Park Center boys also play that night, as they visit Rogers.
