Police to host Citizen Police Academy again
Is anyone interested in learning more about the Maple Grove Police Department? The Maple Grove Police Department will host the 2012 Citizen Police Academy this fall.
The Citizen Police Academy is an 11-week program that meets each Tuesday evening, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at various locations in Maple Grove. The 2012 Citizen Police Academy will start on Oct. 2 and run through Dec. 18.
The Academy is free of charge and offered to residents and business owners of Maple Grove. This program is offered to those who want to learn more about the law enforcement profession and the criminal justice system in Maple Grove.
The weekly sessions include: tours, lectures, demonstrations and discussions. Citizens will be introduced to many duties and responsibilities of the Maple Grove Police. Some topics covered are: patrol operations, criminal investigations, drug enforcement, DWI enforcement, community crime prevention, tactical operations, firearms and defensive tactics.
The application deadline is Wednesday, Sept. 19. Class size is limited to 20 citizens.
Eligibility factors include being a Maple Grove resident or business representative, at least 18 years of age and passing a criminal background check.
